NEWPF Mentoring - 2021

A Necessary "Hand-Up",
Continued Support to Women

Since 2008 Northeast Women in Public Finance has sponsored a Mentoring Program designed to enhance careers and provide personal benefits for professionals from all areas of public finance throughout the tri-state area.

After a challenging 2020, NEWPF believes that lifting each other up plays an enormous role in trying times, in person or virtually.

This year, the Mentoring Program will continue to be held virtually. We are going to include more networking events, career coaching discussions, and other programs for mentees/mentors to stay connected.

If you are outside of the tri-state area and would like to participate, we welcome you to become a member, too. Click here to join NEWPF. (Only paid in full members of Northeast Women in Public Finance are eligible to be paired with a mentor.)

Don’t let working remotely prevent you from expanding your professional network.

Please join us on
Tuesday, March 9, 2021
from 6:00 - 7:30 pm

for our Mentor/Mentee pairing event
Location: On Zoom from anywhere

Our goal for this event is to allow each prospective mentee to meet all of our mentors in breakout rooms so that they can then provide us with their top three choices for mentor.

Please consider carefully before signing up to be a mentor or a mentee:

1. To be successful, this relationship requires a real time commitment. Plan to connect via email/text/phone/zoom at least once a month. Point of contact doesn’t need to be formal or lengthy. You can check in by exchanging a few texts or making plans to have a longer catch up. We encourage you to maintain regular connections.

2. This is a mentee driven program. After initial contact, it will be the mentee's responsibility to keep the relationship active.

3.The main purpose of the Mentoring Program is to help women to navigate career challenges in a safe, supportive, strategic, and confidential environment.

4. Note that certain mentee requests cannot be honored due to potential conflict of interest.

There will be follow-up events during the course of the year to make sure all participants are getting the most out of the program.

Please RSVP as soon as possible, no later than March 5, 2021

If you are a member of NEWPF and would like to participate as a mentor or mentee, but cannot attend on March 9, please send an email to events@newpf.org.

We look forward to the 2021 program being successful through strong participation from NEWPF membership and we encourage everyone in the program to give us feedback throughout the year. You can reach us at events@newpf.org.

About the Program:

Learn more specifics about the Mentoring Program on our web site.

We feel the success of the program is greatly enhanced by the fact that NEWPF has such a diversity of membership in terms of professional fields and experience in the public finance industry. Being mentored or being a mentor is a great opportunity to enrich one's own career or that of a colleague.

Please join us in participating in the mentoring program and pass along the word to others in your organization.

We know you will benefit from participating, personally and professionally, and it will also be fun!

Looking forward to seeing you on March 9th!

NEWPF Co-Presidents: Vivian Altman and Kimberly Lyons

Mentoring Committee: Elaine Brennan, Diane Brosen, Alice Cheng, Freda Johnson, Emily Berry, Aditi Gupta, and Sophie Jean
