NEWPF Project Finance Series:
Goethals Bridge

Please join us for a panel discussion on the ambitious project by the Port Authority of NY & NJ - Goethals Bridge Replacement Project.

Innovative Solution to NY-Metro Infrastructure Needs?

The Goethals Bridge Replacement Project aims to replace the currently dated and ailing Goethals Bridge built in 1928 with a more state-of-the-art smart bridge that incorporates improved safety conditions and reliability. The bridge replacement will upgrade the bridge to meet 21st-century traffic demands with improved smart bridge technology.

According to the PANYNJ website, the bridge replacement is estimated to create 2,250 direct jobs, paying a total of $224 million in wages, and generating $872 million in total activity for the region.

The project is being designed, funded, and implemented through a Public-Private Partnership. The chosen developer, NYNJ Link Developer LLC—a consortium formed by Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets, and Kiewit Infrastructure Company—is responsible for the design, construction and financing of the replacement bridge, and will provide maintenance for 35 years after substantial completion of the bridge. The Port Authority will retain certain operations of the new bridge, including toll collection. The project will benefit from a variety of funding sources including federal financing.

NEWPF Panel Discussion

As part of our annual Project of the Year series, we will be bringing in a panel of experts from various parties to discuss the initial planning phase through the steps needed to complete the project by the projected completion date in 2018.

There will be an underlying message relating to how the public and private sectors can both play a role in improving infrastructure while delivering the safest and most cost effective product.

The panel discussion will be followed by a reception and the opportunity to meet our panelists and visit with friends and colleagues.
